Provenance and Comments: Tausch 10. Sent from Paris to Baden-Baden in August 1944. [Rochlitz report, p.9]. This work on paper is the only one in the ERR inventory which describes a Centaur and which fits the description of the item restituted by French authorities to Paul Rosenberg on 20 January 1950 after being returned to Paris on the 6th convoy from Baden Baden. On July 9, 1941 the art dealer Gustav Rochlitz exchanged eighteen ‘degenerate’ paintings for one portrait by the artist Tizians, Portrait of a Young Lady. Most of the paintings belonged to Alfred Lindenbaum and Paul Rosenberg. There are no records as to whom the rest of the paintings belonged to.
