Provenance and Comments: This work was part of a group placed in safety with the Louvre on 19 October 1939. It was subsequently confiscated as "non-Aryan" on 7 July 1941.Returned to M.A. for sale. Although the Jeu de Paume/Louvre crate inventory places this item in a crate reserved for works by Redon, we think it might have been a misattribution since the only Redon work in the confiscated Reichenbach collection is labeled "Reichenbach 20." Slated for transport to Nikolsburg on 1 August 1944. However, the train never left Paris
