Provenance and Comments: This painting has a pendant depicting a Greek landscape, which Mrs. Propper was able to recover from a local antique dealer in Paris on faubourg St.Honoré. The documentation in the Propper file at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs Archives is ambiguous. There is no indication of this work being returned to Mrs. Propper but there is a date marked in thick blue crayon on the upper right hand corner (12-VI-45) which might be a signifier of recovery. The same date appears on the following page listing items that were recovered and returned to Mrs. Propper. Until additional documents can be found, we will consider this item as not restituted.
