Provenance and Comments: Dr. Tomforde and Dr. Borchers inventoried this item on 12 March 1943. Returned to M.A. for sale. Slated for transport to Nikolsburg on 1 August 1944. However, the train never left Paris. In theory, this watercolor should have been restituted to Mr. Kapferer together with the other objects found by the French government on the Nikolsburg train. However, it does not appear on any of the inventories of works either missing or recovered which Mr. Kapferer submitted to the French authorities in 1945. Hence, it is probable, unless proven otherwise, that this particular watercolor is not part of the KAP collection and was comingled by mistake by the ERR personnel at the Jeu de Paume. Its restitution status remains an open question.
