Observations: Maurice Leven was a 'docteur en droit' and 'avocat a la Cour d'Appel' [appellate lawyer]. His painting was seized by German officials on July 7, 1941, at the Chateau de Chambord. Other items, including two drawings by Degas were seized from a safe in the basement of the headquarters of the Central Committee of the Alliance Israelite Universelle on 45, rue La Bruyere, Paris 75009. These items were seized between August 23 and 25, 1940, under the auspices of Dr. Groethe.
