Provenance and Comments: This painting was removed by Weiss on 22 June 1942. According to French restitution records, this painting was attributed to Jakob van Ruysdael. The Devisenschutzkommando (DSK) confiscated it from the vault in which it had been placed at the Banque Morgan et Cie. in Paris. The painting was then handed over to Hans Wendland. According to the Munich Central Collecting Point (MCCP) cards, this item bears number 33838 and came back to France from the American zone of Austria. On the back of the painting, there is a number associated with the Vienna-based auction house, the Dorotheum (217840-38). Dr. Eder, an official from the Dorotheum, told American authorities that the painting had been acquired in France through Theodore Hermsen, set aside for the Linzmuseum and stored at Aussee where US troops found it.
