Literature: This drawing of the "Sower" was a study of the painting executed by Millet in 1850 which has been hanging at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston since 1917, a fact that did not elude the ERR staffer who typed up the card for this drawing. There is a reference to this drawing, which is more like a sketch in Louis Souillé's book published in 1900, "Peintures, aquarelles, pastels, dessins de Jean-François Millet", sold by Desfossés in 1899 for 1450 francs.
Provenance and Comments: This painting was removed as part of a lot of twenty objects from 3, rue Dosne, where Georges Bernheim kept these objects. The GFP transferred them to the Jeu de Paume on 10 or 11 December 1940.
