Provenance and Comments: The description given by the ERR on the card is markedly different from the description in the ERR inventory for W 38. Indeed, while the ERR card attributes this work tentatively to Pillement, the description given in the inventory clearly places it in the manner of Moreau. We can infer that the card and the inventory were produced at different times by different individuals at one or more ERR depots in the Reich, at Fussen and/or at Aussee. The ERR inventory indicates that the painting was repatriated to France on 25 June 1946. The French restitution records indicate that the item was restituted to Wildenstein's representatives on 21 March 1947.
