| Provenance and Comments: | This painting was found in its crate at the Louvre when Paris was liberated in August 1944. It was later found by Rose Valland and restituted to the Lindenbaum/Lindon family on 18 July 1946. Sold by the heirs through Galliera on 9 June 1964. The painting has recently resurfaced at Christie's Paris on 16 September 2020, as a work by Marguerite Gérard. It should be noted that Christie's did not provide the spoliation and restitution history of this work in the sales catalogue. |
