Collection: (ASS (12 H)) Assmances-This collection was one of the last to be processed at the Jeu de Paume in June 1944. Although the ERR specialists did not assign an owner to this set of confiscated objects at least two works in the ASS collection belonged to Alfred Lindenbaum (Lindon).

Provenance and Comments: This painting was found in its crate at the Louvre when Paris was liberated in August 1944. It was later found by Rose Valland and restituted to the Lindenbaum/Lindon family on 18 July 1946. Sold by the heirs through Galliera on 9 June 1964. The painting has recently resurfaced at Christie's Paris on 16 September 2020, as a work by Marguerite Gérard. It should be noted that Christie's did not provide the spoliation and restitution history of this work in the sales catalogue.
